There are a lot of problems with the Xbox 360. Most of the problems are related to hardware failure. This problem can be solved by Microsoft if your consoles warranty has not yet expired. But if it has expired it then the cost of Xbox 360 repair is around $100 – $150 per repair.

You shouldn’t worry at all because you can fix these problems on your own if you know the source of the problem. There are two main reasons why your Xbox needs some repairs and these are hardware failure and power failure. These are common failures since it is the part of the Xbox 360 that gets stressed out during long hours of play.
Before you can start repairing your console you should know the source first. Here are two main sources of Xbox failure:
1. Hardware failure and connection failure.
Before checking your hardware check the connections first. Most of the time, the problem is due to loose connections. It may be the connection inside the console or outside the console. If all connections are connected correctly then you can check the hardware. One common hardware failure is the power supply unit. Another is damaged or warped internals that cause connections to fail within the xbox itself. This actually requires you to open up your xbox and carry out some simple xbox 360 repairs.
When you first get an error warnimg prompt on your screen, simply turn off your console, get out your Xbox 360 repair guide and follow the steps on how you can troubleshoot and repair it. You can find video guides on the internet showing you exactly what to do. Don’t forget to memorize each connection you will remove so that you can put it all back together easily! Remeber to always disconnect the power source from the console before attempting any xbox 360 repair.
The most common cause of failure is overheating and by fixing this you can prevent your console failing again. This is usually quite easy and just a matter of replacing the clamps for the heatsink and the mounting screws and is quite easy as far as Xbox 360 repairs are concerned.
2. Power supply failure.
You will notice this failure when you cannot turn on your console. First thing to check is all connections. If all connections are connected well that is the time you should suspect power supply failure. Take extra precautions in this part of troubleshooting. If the indicator is any colour except green on the power brick it means there is a problem with it. This cannot be repaired so do not try to open it, just replace it.
For those who are inclined to take matters into their own hands, the quickest and cheapest option is to repair it yourself using this guide. If you can follow directions, it’s fairly simple to do. In fact I gave this guide to my brother and his wife ended up reparing their xbox!

That sounds more like a problem with the disc drive itself. You can replace these very easily! There are replacement DVD drives on ebay for quite cheap.
